Former British Rally Championship competitor Natalie Barratt has become the first confirmed driver for the new Projekt E series.

The veteran of 44 World Rally Championship rounds is set to compete in all rounds of the all-electric series in a STARD-built Ford Fiesta.

“Projekt E is a fantastic opportunity and I’m hugely grateful to be part of it,” said Barratt, who is returning to regular competition after a lengthy break. “And what better date to announce my participation than on International Women’s Day?

“I am looking to complete all five rounds – depending on budget. At the moment I am concentrating on getting physically prepared – it’s been a long time since I sat in a race car.

“It’s electric and it’s mind-blowingly fast. What more could you ask for? I’ll be testing the Projekt E race car for the first time later this month.”

The inaugural Projekt E campaign will kick off on May 16 in Belgium and will also feature on the World Rallycross support bill in Norway in June, Germany in August, and Latvia in September.

It was also slated to be a part of the World RX of Russia weekend in July but that event has been cancelled and a replacement event for Projekt E hasn’t been announced yet.

Two teams have already committed to Projekt E but not announced drivers: Holten Motorsport and Rallytechnology.
