The Rally Sweden powerstage will go ahead despite heavy rain and high temperatures in Likenas.
The threat of the conditions had already prompted the itinerary to be further trimmed and the planned morning run of the stage cancelled.
With heavy rain falling and temperatures of 8-9 degrees celsius, the decision to only try one pass of the stage has proved wise.
A source close to the organizers told DirtFish: “We’ve been looking at the stage all the time. It’ll be close to the edge, but it will run.”
DirtFish understands that despite the rain and temperature, there is still a base layer of ice on the stage at present – although it may not last long.
The lack of snow has been a huge threat to the entire running of the 2020 event, but the key factor has been the ice base as this is what is required to ensure the studded tires can work and do not damage the roads.
Elfyn Evans carries a 17-second lead over Ott Tänak into the deciding stage, which runs just after midday local time.
