For DirtFish Driver, Travis Nease, the 2017 & 2018 Oregon Trail Rally looked almost the same; the one exception being a co-driver change for 2018. The duo of Nease and Krista Skucas finished in 5th place overall and 2nd in the Limited 4WD class in 2017, with the duo of Nease & Danny Norkus replicating that for 2018!
While this year did bring a co-driver change with Krista Skucas transitioning over to Lucy Block for OTR, Travis teamed up with his co-driver from 2015, Danny Norkus, and it was like no time had passed. The Limited 4WD class had roughly 12 competitors out of the 58 total teams competing.
Travis’ DirtFish-built 2017 WRX STI maintained its streak of essentially no mechanical failures after 12 events across North America over the past year. OTR 2017 was the first event for Travis with his STI and even after 12 events he says, “it still feels as new as it did back then!” Unfortunately, the duo did catch some dust on the stages this year that slowed their pace a little, but overall the race went off without a hitch.
Following the race Travis said, “I really enjoy these low-stress events, which in part is created by not pushing flat out every mile, and wisely choosing the areas to push, ultimately minimizing the risk of damaging the car and overall position.”
The next event for Travis and Danny will be their home event, Olympus Rally in Shelton, Washington. “We are looking forward to having another clean, steady rally,” said Travis, and continued, “the past two years Krista and I have won our class, and I am hoping to make it three years in a row!”
