Legend Loeb storms to first World Rallycross win

Sebastien Loeb and Timmy Hansen

Rally legend Sebastien Loeb produced a masterclass in driving on Sunday to claim his first World Rallycross victory in Riga, Latvia.

The Frenchman slipped through the gears beautifully throughout with Peugeot team-mate Timmy Hansen joining him on the podium after a gutsy drive.

Mattias Ekstrom managed to get a jump on championship rival Petter Solberg in the standings, despite finishing two seconds back from Loeb.

The Swede now stands on 228 points with Solberg back in third after Johan Kristoffersson moved ahead of him with 201 points. Loeb is now fifth and Hansen sixth.

Loeb was victorious in the first semi-final ahead of top qualifier Kristoffersson, who could not maintain his form overnight after a bout of food poisoning.

He carried on his stellar weekend form in the final by shooting off from the front row of the grid to set a series of fastest laps en route to a comfortable victory.
