2017 Red Bull GRC Seattle

Motorsports, Uncategorized | September 06, 2017

After a long season of races on the east coast of the United States and Canada, the Red Bull Global Rallycross series makes its way west to Seattle, Washington- home to DirtFish! It has been a year since the series last visited the Pacific Northwest and packed the stands at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA.

Sitting only sixty-eight points behind the leader, Conner Martell is currently second place in the overall championship standings. To keep Conner and the team’s championship hopes alive, Conner will be required to have two near perfect races this weekend. In his rookie season, James Rimmer has been on the cusp of a podium finish and a heat win in multiple occasions this year. Being that this is a double header, both drivers will have double the opportunities to put on a good show for DirtFish’s hometown fans and show what a young team from the Pacific Northwest is capable of.

In 2016, the Seattle round was one of the most successful race weekends in DirtFish Motorsports history. Conner was in a similar position as this year and searching for an overall championship win heading into the final two rounds, and he was able to put together a perfect race from start to finish! Not only did he win the final race… he won every heat race and the qualifying that lead up to it. This was the first time Conner and the DirtFish Motorsports team had raced in front of their hometown crowd, so for him to win was an amazing show of force to not only the Red Bull Global Rallycross, but the Pacific Northwest as well.

To top this weekend off, we are extremely excited to announce our new partnership with YEBA (Click here to read the YEBA press release) and the Girl Scouts of Western Washington (click here to read the full press release)! YEBA is the edgy and exciting new women’s active wear collection by design duo Yves and Cedric Benaroch – creators of the iconic clothing line 2BFree. Girl Scouts of Western Washington gives every girl access to life-changing experiences that inspire her to do something big, and they serve more than 25,000 girls from Kindergarten to 12th grade across 17 counties in the state of Washington. We look forward to the weekend with our new sponsors on the two DirtFish cars and we are incredibly thankful for their support. Look for the white, black and grey colors of YEBA on the number 21 car of Conner Martell and the iconic green trefoil of the Girl Scouts on the side of the number 25 car of James Rimmer.

The track that the GRC track builders have put together this year is very similar to the layout that was used in 2016. The start is set on the front straightaway before heading onto the banked corner of the large oval. Following the first corner, the drivers will make a 90° left turn onto the gravel section where they will slide through a series of tight corners before choosing whether they take a sharp right-hand turn to go over the jump or stay straight to take the Joker Lap. Once the two routes meet back up, the drivers will go left around the banking of the smaller oval that lead takes them across the finish line.

Seattle isn’t just known for its coffee… we also have pretty amazing motorsports events too. Click here if you want to drive a rally car!
