It has been nearly six months since the 2016 Red Bull Global Rallycross drew to a close at the Port of Los Angeles. DirtFish driver, Conner Martell, competed hard throughout the entire season, winning two rounds and ending up on the podium multiple times. For his first full season competing in Global Rallycross Lites, that was an impressive feat. At the conclusion of the season, Conner was able to walk away with 4th place overall. This certainly gave him motivation to work hard through the off-season and give himself the best chance to finish in the number one spot for 2017.

Joining Conner for the full 2017 Global Rallycross season is teammate and friend, James Rimmer. Over the years, James has spent a good amount of time competing in stage rally events around North America behind the wheel of a Subaru BRZ and Subaru WRX STI. In 2016, he dipped his toes into the hard hitting world of rallycross and competed in the final three rounds of the Red Bull Global Rallycross. After some tough luck and being pushed into the wall during the race in Seattle, James hopped back in the DirtFish car for the final two rounds in Los Angeles where he was able to achieve his best finish in 7th place.
Both Conner and James have spent a great deal of time behind the wheel of the DirtFish GRC lites training car as well as multiple other platforms. Having our drivers work in various platforms will make them all around better and more versatile drivers, setting them up for success in the future. Plus, more seat time never hurts! In December, Conner and James made a trip north of the border to compete in the Big White Winter Rally. This was a brand new experience for Conner, but it was also a great learning experience that he excelled at with speed and agility. We have quickly realized that Conner and James are able to be extremely competitive no matter what car we put them in, which bodes well for the season and their racing careers.
Memphis, Tennessee is the location for the debut Global Rallycross race of 2017. The entire weekend begins on Thursday night with a Red Bull Global Rallycross kick-off party on historic Beale Street at 5pm and continues an hour later with a driver autograph session. The following day, the teams, drivers and cars make their way to Memphis International Raceway for the first day of competition. That day, Conner and James will race against the clock in an attempt to give themselves the highest qualifying position for the first round of heat races the following day.

Saturday is the true race day, where Conner and James will be going door-to-door against the rest of the field. The day begins with the first set of heat races, which will determine who moves onto the Final or the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ). In 2016, the first two rounds of the season were held in Phoenix, Arizona. During those two races, Conner was able to land his first podium finish as well at his first Red Bull Global Rallycross Lites win! We are confident he has the ability to repeat his performance this weekend.
We look forward to seeing and meeting all of the fans in Memphis this weekend! It is a welcome addition the list of locations that will be visited by the Red Bull Global Rallycross in 2017. Follow James and Conner’s progress this weekend on our Facebook and Instagram.
